Research background

From my PhD in 1978, I’m dealing studies in flora and vegetation of the mountain systems, biodiversity, conservation and dynamics of the plant communities versus man activities, herbivores and climate. Currently I’m a researcher of the “Bio-Flora”, a consolidated research group together with the University of Zaragoza in order to study taxonomically and genetically the endemic flora of the Ebro Valley and surrounding mountains, Pyrenees specially. My main research methods include field surveys and the studies based on the JACA Herbarium, the third collection in Spain.

Academic milestones

-I was received in 2002 as a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Zaragoza (Spain)
-During the last 15 years I’ve conducted 6 succesfully Ph-D Thesis on the subalpine and alpine pastures, treeline ecotone, plant conservation and reproductive biology of mountain flora.
-Among other projects, since 1981 I’m participating in "FLORA IBERICA" Project and I’m a Member of its Editorial Commitee (15 volumes published until present).
-Involved in ALPNET and GLORIA-Europe project from 2000 (EVK2-2000-00056 and others) until now. It’s devoted to the study of the alpine mountain flora and climatic change, not only in 17 mountain ranges of Europe but also in a worldwide perspective. Currently our Target Region is in the Monte Perdido Massif (Ordesa national Park, Spain)
-I’ve published about 250 articles and wrote or edited 13 books on floristics, vegetation and conservation biology, mainly on the Pyrenees (France and Spain).
-Since 1997 I belong to the Scientific Council of the Parc National des Pyrénées (France) and since 2001 to the Scientific Committee of the Conservatoire Botanique Pyrénéen (France).
