Fieldwork skills and participation in coring campaigns
- In-situ measurements of physical-chemical water profiles in lakes and wetlands with different multi-parametric probes and water sampling with Niskins bottle.
- Sampling of superficial sediments in lakes and wetlands with dredges and different short-coring systems.
- Recovery of Livingstone system cores in peatbogs and wetlands and long Uwitec cores on floating platform in shallow and deep lakes
- Recovery of short-cores by Uwitec system and sampling in-situ for 137Cs / 210Pb dating.
- Participation in coring campaigns:
- LINCG campaign (December 2008): recovery of short cores in coastal and high mountain lakes and inland shallow wetlands from the Santiago de Chile area.
- PYRENEES (PM073/2007) project campaign (Spain, July 2008): recovery of two Uwitec cores in ‘Basa de la Mora’ high-mountain lake and livingstone cores from nearby peatbog.
- CALIBRE project campaign (Spain, 2007-2008): recovery of Uwitec short-cores and in-situ sampling in lakes Arreo, El Tobar, Montcortés, Sanabria, and Estanya
- LIMNOCLIBER project coring campaign (Spain, January 2007): recovery of a long Uwitec core in Lake Estanya.
Analytical laboratory skills
- Sedimentological description of lacustrine cores, preparation and analysis of smear slides with petrographic microscope
- Preparation of samples and imaging of samples for Scanning Electronic Microscope (SEM) and elemental analysis by associated EDAX XRF microprobe.
- Basic identification and separation of organic macroremains for AMS 14C dating
- Elemental analysis (C, N, S) by LECO SC144DR and VARIOMAX C/N systems
- Interpretation of X-Ray Diffraction diagrams and semi-quantitative estimations of mineralogical content of bulk sediment samples.

- Construction of age models by linear and spline interpolation of calibrated dates with Analyseries and R software.
- Multi-variate, statistical analysis of sediment properties databases with SPSS 14.0, Multi-Variate Statistical Package (MSPV 3.1) and Sigmaplot 10.
