The Limnogeology - Global Change team encompasses member from several institutions, and consequently, the facilities are located at several labs.

A. Field vehicles: At the IPE and EEAD we have several four-wheel-drive vehicles and vans for fieldwork.

B. The coring system is composed of:

1. a sturdy floating platform composed of rubber tires and wooden plates mounted on a steel frame. The coring tower has a manual winch with a half a ton lifting power. We also have rubber boats and instruments for measuring pH and conductivity, and sampling waters and lake sediments.

2. several coring apparatus, with and without plastic liners:

  - a 5 cm diameter, and a 8 cm modified Livingstones
  - a Streif coring device with an electrical percussion system
  - a Merk coring system.
  - a percussion hammer to sample soils and dry lakes.

C. Core Laboratories. Several labs at the IPE and EEAD have the capabilities for the initial core description. They include: opening of sediment cores, photography, sedimentologic and textural sediment analyses and sampling. A binocular and a petrographic microscope to observe the samples and the smear slides are in the laboratory. Organic matter and carbonate contents are measured with a LECO SC 144DR. LOI methods and calcimeters are also available. Grain size analyses are performed with a Coulter LS 230. Samples are prepared in the IPE laboratory for several geochemical and isotopical analyses. Sediment cores are preserved in cold conditions (4°C).

D. Geochemistry Lab (EEAD). It has the capabilities for trace element analyses in waters and sediments. Besides the conventional equipment for a chemistry lab, it counts with a Milestone mills microwave for acid attacks, flame photometer, and a Perkin - Elmer ICP-OES.

E. Palinology Lab. The lab is a cooperative effort of the IPE and the University of Zaragoza and is located in the Antiquity Sciences Department of the University of Zaragoza.

F. Isotope Lab. (EEZ) This facility is located at the Estación Experimental de El Zaidin (Granada).

G. A GIS and CAD workstations and mapping facilities are located at the IPE and EEAD.
